Junior Programs
Sonoma Community Tennis at Hanna Center offers year-round programs for junior players of all ages and abilities. From first-timers to competitive players, Coach Felipe and our team use the progressive ball system recommended by the ITF and USTA — lighter balls, smaller courts, and age-appropriate instruction so every child builds confidence and has fun on the court.

The Ball Progression System
Each color ball is designed for a specific age and skill level, helping players develop at the right pace.

Red Ball
Ages 3–6
36-foot court | Low-compression foam balls
A fun first step onto the court. Hand-eye coordination, basic racket skills, and learning to love the game through movement-based games on a kid-sized court.

Orange Ball
Ages 7–8
60-foot court | 50% compression balls
Players start rallying, learning proper stroke technique, and understanding scoring. The mid-size court and slower ball build consistency and confidence.

Green Ball
Ages 9–10
Full-size court | 75% compression balls
The bridge to the full game. All strokes — forehands, backhands, volleys, and serves. Introduction to match play strategy and competitive etiquette.

Yellow Ball
Ages 11 and up
Full-size court | Standard tennis balls
Advanced stroke production, tactical awareness, mental toughness, and match preparation. Players train with purpose and intensity using standard equipment.
